Excited to announce Steve Thompson as a new goalie coach

The Alaska Oilers are proud to announce that Steve Thompson will be joining current goalie coach Wylie Rogers as our new goalie coach for this coming year.

Steve Thompson spent his minor hockey days in Anchorage, Steve played Juniors where he played one season with the BCHL's Vernon Vipers, then two seasons with the USHL's Sioux City Musketeers. After Juniors, Thompson signed a Division 1 scholarship to play hockey with the University of Alaska - Fairbanks Nanooks. He graduated with a 3.85 GPA and was awarded the Scholar Athlete of the Year award. After leaving the University of Alaska, Steve then began coaching at UAA. He received his NSCA (National Strength and Conditioning Association) certifications and spent two seasons as the teams goaltending/strength and conditioning coach. On top of his college coaching experience, Coach Thompson has spent many years working for USA Hockey developing and selecting the nations best goaltenders. He serves as the Associate Coach-in-Chief for USA Hockey Goaltending on the west coast and travels around the western states helping teach goaltenders and goalie coaches. Most recently, he spent his time working with the Pittsburgh Penguins Goaltending Development Staff which gave him the opportunity to coach many NHL, AHL, and ECHL goaltenders. Currently Steve is the Owner of Alaska Goaltending Academy which serves all the of Alaska's goaltenders. Steve and his staff will be working with all Alaska Oilers goaltenders and their coaches as well as other organizations around Alaska.
